Make a Stamp from an Eraser

Sep 28, 2013

I love stamps. I love using them on packages for customers and friends! But they always seem to be expensive (no one wants to pay $7!). I saw this idea on Pinterest, and thought I'd share my tips and how-to with you!
You'll need an X-acto knife, a rubber eraser, and a pencil. That's it! I got a two pack of erasers at Target for 52 cents. You also want to do this on a safe surface, like a cutting mat, so you don't accidentally scratch any surfaces.
First cut off the ends, where the eraser is slanted.
Draw out your design. I decided to turn this into two smaller stamps. Remember that whatever you do will be backwards when stamped on, so take this into consideration when carving words.
First cut out your shape by tracing it with your blade. Then slice through the outer edges and work your way inwards until you can pull off a chunk. Continue until your whole shape is cut out!
Smooth out the edges of your shape and shave the base down. I usually make sure to shave it down a little less than a 1/2 cm.
Test your stamp and smooth out any rough edges.

All done! If you want to add detailing like some of the stamps above, you can cut super tiny slices with your X-acto knife, or buy some real stamp carving tools.

I'm addicted to this now! It's so cheap and only takes about 10 minutes for a simple design, like a heart.
Happy carving!

Shutterbug

Sep 24, 2013

Today I got a new camera! I'm really excited about it and all the wonderful capabilities it has. I don't have a memory card for it yet (oops) but I had a little space left on my old card so I went outside to test it!
There are plenty of hummingbirds in our yard and they are so difficult to shoot (with a camera of course ;)). But I was able to get some good pictures of them this time.

I can't wait to play with it some more. You'll be seeing a lot more photos around here!

Room Decor Ideas

Sep 21, 2013

I've been collecting different patterns, colors, and elements for my room decor after hours of browsing through beautiful homes on Pinterest. I can't wait until I redesign my room with a large work space for blogging, designing, online shopping, etc. I realized a few months ago what I was missing in my room was the natural stuff: plants and wood (everything I had was painted), so I'm incorporating a lot of green.

I also love getting comfy on my bed checking blogs, and something that would be perfect for that would be this laptop desk. I already have the floral pillow of the pattern above, and I can't wait to pair it with a black and white throw.
Another really important part of a functional room is organization. A cute and functional piece to add would be this little wall hanger for keys or maybe even to hang necklaces on! I'm also fitting storage units into my closet like Tetris... I don't know how that little space can hold so much! :)

I can't wait to share with you my finished room, once I've actually done it! (ha!)

I hope you've all had a good week! The last few weeks have been crazy because of classes and everything else starting back up. I miss Summer already (although it's still 100 degrees)!

Prescott

Aug 22, 2013

Last weekend my mom, sister, and I went to Prescott for a girl's thrift shopping day! It was cool and rainy. Such a nice change from the 110 degree Phoenix weather!
I fell IN LOVE with this aqua telephone, but sadly it was too pricey for me.
I found a lot of tiny things such as tins, belts, and fabric. Everything I got only cost me $2 (oh the joys of thrifting).
Our day ended with ice cream, amazing clouds, and a rainbow! (no joke... it was just that awesome)

I had a great time in Cincy! My mom and I got to see old friends. We went to several of the main "touristy" spots, such as Fountain Square, Newport Aquarium, Cincinnati Zoo, Carew Tower, Cathedral of the Basilica, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center! *whew* It was a busy week!

Sedona

Aug 15, 2013

I went to Sedona a few weeks ago. Isn't it beautiful? The red rock and green always reminds me of Christmas...
Someday when I have a really nice camera, I'll go again and have a photography day with my bestie!
